Our Mission
London is one of the greatest creative hubs in the world, however Havering is recorded as the fourth least culturally engaged London borough and third least able to access hyper-local publicly funded culture. The partnership is working together to respond to this by:
- Implementing an action plan that responds directly to the needs of Havering’s education and cultural partners.
- Ensuring creativity and culture feature in the lives of all children and young people in Havering.
- Pledging to actively engage Havering’s most under-served and underrepresented children and young people.
- Promoting and delivering impactful, unusual, real life enrichment experiences.
- Connecting students to industry, employers and specialists in order to promote and encourage creative careers, challenge stereotypes and raise aspirations.
- Embracing diverse models and approaches by engaging with local communities, and those not traditionally included in cultural strategy conversations.
- Embedding creativity across the curriculum in Havering.
Our Partnership
In April, the partnership delivered its first conference, ‘The Children Have Spoken’,sharing valuable learning from a series of youth consultation workshops to help understand the level of access to arts and culture across the borough, highlighting interests, needs and barriers to participating. We worked with 8 organisations, delivered 14 workshops and spoke to 252 young people.
The partnership is currently developing a three year programme of activity in response to the research, which will build on the early success of projects in the pilot year, including a new Cultural Commissioning initiative to empower and facilitate young people to design and produce their own creative and cultural events.
